Abstract. The paper presents the results of experimental study of peculiarities and methods for modeling the real low voltage distribution network, results of using the data on average values of active and reactive load powers and voltage magnitudes that come from smart meters for phases identifycation, load flow calculation, state estimation, for assessment of technical and commercial energy losses. Proposed are the algorithms for solving the above problems and a method for reducing the four-wire network to three-wire one that ensures calculation of load flow and active power losses directly by smart meter measurements.

Benchmarking Study of Activities Aimed for Improving Reliability of Electric Power Transmission in Distribution Networks
Gvozdev D.B., Ivanov R.V. (PJSC “Rosseti Moscow Region”)
Abstract. Reliability of an electrical network is, actually, its capability to perform power transmission, distribution and consumer supply in the required scope with the rated quality. This parameter is one of the key performance indicators of a grid company. The approaches used to improve the distribution network reliability are often only evidence-based. Therefore, they are inefficient with regard to incurred costs. The article is dedicated to the procedure of arranging the activities to improve reliability of 6-10 kV overhead transmission lines, as they are the most extensional and challenging component that is involved into the process of energy transmission. The calculations provided can be used as the base of different approaches to reliability improvement, both of individual components and the whole network, with different level of automation in respect of costs and achievable decrease of the failure rate and outage duration.

The Results of the Evaluation of Currents and Voltages of Higher Harmonics Based on Modeling the Power Supply System of a Factory
Nazirov Kh.B., Аbdulkerimov S.A. (Brunch of National Research University «Moscow Power Engineering Institute», Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan)
Abstract. The article discusses the modeling of elements of the power supply system of an aluminum plant, which operates on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan. The current state of the plant and the characteristics of the power supply scheme are given. Modeling of the process of estimating currents and voltage of higher harmonics is carried out in the ETAP 16.0 software package, which is widely used for modeling electrical processes in electric power systems. The simulation is carried out to evaluate the steady-state mode for currents and voltage of the first and 50th harmonics. Calculation results for currents and voltage of higher harmonics for all nodes of the considered circuit are given. The calculation results are given in the form of the total coefficients of distortion of sinusoidality and the coefficients of the nth harmonic component in voltage and current.

Estimation of the Level of Non-linear Distortions of Electric Installations Based on Simulation of Their Input Current Impulse Duration
Tukshaitov R.K., Semenova O.D., Ivanova V.R. (KSEU, Kazan)
Abstract. The work was aimed for simulating the duration of rated frequency electric installation input current and its expansion in a Fourier series in PSCAD program with the following calculation of the non-linear distortion factor. The relation between non-linear distortion factors and the power factor depending on the input current impulse duration within the range 0,04…10 ms has been plotted. It was revealed that if it is less than 5 ms, the exponential increase of higher harmonic emission into the network begins.

Methods of Providing Sustainable Operation of Wind Power Plants Integrated into Domestic Distribution Networks
Simonov A.V., Ilyushin P.V. (RTSoft-Smart Grid LLC, Energy Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow))
Abstract. In Russia, when a wind power plant (WPP) is constructed, they often use wind-driven power facilities (WDPF) of type IV connected to the collection network of a WPP via inverters. These WDPF are either supplied by foreign manufacturers or produced in Russia under the license. The voltage-time curve of the Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) function set in WDPF inverters complies with requirements specified in grid codes of the countries-designers. WDPF performs tripping in conditions of reference incidents according to requirements of domestic regulatory documents and with regard to the fact that WPP adjacent networks are equipped with relay protection devices that perform remote backup functions with a 1–2.5 s time delay. This gives rise to load surges in generators of conventional power plants, transmission lines and power transformers making the post-emergency conditions harder. The means of providing sustainable WDPF operation during all types of reference incidents without a need of reconstructing relay protection devices in the adjacent network are provided in the article. Group and individual technical solutions, which can be implemented at either the WPP site or every WDPF are also considered. The efficiency of technical solutions is proven by calculations of transient electromechanical processes. The article contains information about the main technical characteristics, the cost of proposed technical solutions and recommendations on their selection, feasibility evaluation and application at WPP.

Influence of High Frequency of Operated Voltage Harmonics on Aging of Cable Terminations in Distribution Network
Vodennikov D.A. (JSC Moscow Cable Network) Ovsyannikov A.G. (NSTU, Novosibirsk)
Abstract. The influence of high frequency harmonics of operated voltage on the insulation of electrical equipment, in particular, on the aging and failure of cable terminations is discussed. The effect of harmonics is a violation of regulating the electric field strength in the cable terminations due to higher voltage frequency. Attention is also drawn to possible changes in the dielectric properties of materials used in the construction of cable termination with frequency. The effectiveness of two remote methods for assessing the condition of cable terminations has been established — thermographic and registration of acoustic signals of partial discharges. Abstract. Using of renewable energy resources depending on its type and presence of power electronics devices for its connection to grid can result in changes of power system operation conditions and effect on secondary equipment operation. Paper considers characteristics and operation of wind power plant based on doubly-feed induction generators and includes results of studies of its effect on distance protection operation obtained using dynamic model of wind power plant and nearby grid. Model considers operation of power electronic converter and its control system. Paper revealed a need of consideration of wind power plant operation conditions for short circuit calculations, configuring and setting of protective relays and of introducing corresponding requirements in technical standards.

Relay Protection of 110-220 kV Lines to Preserve the Power Plant Sustainability. Double-Ended Lines
Maruda I.F.
Abstract. The article is dedicated to performance of 110- 220 kV line protection to preserve the power plant sustainability without the differential phase protection that is conventionally used as the main protection for this purpose because of its complexity and a rather low level of reliability provided. To achieve this it is proposed to use the adaptive relay protection and the directional current protection of parallel lines as the main protections. These protections are simple in design and provide an increased level of reliability.

On Formation of Technical Requirements to the Design, Reliability and Technical Evaluation of 6-35 kV Arc Suppression Coils
Nazarychev A.N., Pugachev A.A., Pelenev D.N., Veprikov A.A. (Saint Petersburg Mining University), Titenkov S.S. (OOO EGE-Energan)
Abstract. The article is dedicated to a relevant issue of providing reliability of 6-35 kV distribution networks grounded via an arc suppression coil (ASC). Peculiarities of plunger ASCs and capacitor-regulated ASCs are shown. ASC specifications are studied with regard to the valid reference documents. Factors that impact VAC linearity are analyzed. Design deficiencies of some ASCs that cause problems in compensation of capacitive currents during phase-to-ground faults are detected and verified. The measures on formation of technical requirements to the design, reliability and technical evaluation of 6-35 kV ASC are proposed.
